15 Must Have Beauty Products

There are two good reasons to keep your beauty products packed in the top portion of your carry-on or personal bag. One, so you're not that person getting the evil eye while you're unpacking your entire bag in the security line to remove your liquids. And two, if you happen to miss a flight or wind up with a long delay you won't have to go without your products.

Pro tip: Invest in TSA PreCheck; skip the long lines, avoiding taking off your shoes, and displaying your electronics!

Always follow the 3-1-1 Rule
One 1-quart bag
Per (one) person
Filled with 3.4 oz containers
  1. Wipes. Currently my favorites are Neutrogena makeup remover wipes.
  2. Lotion. Hey honey is my number one when is comes to moisturizer! Most of you already know that I don't even put soap on my face so this is huge! Beyond recommend this product.
  3. Deodorant. Same goes for deodorant as lotion, the hotter the climate the more I bring with me. Currently Degree Deodorant is my favorite as I’m a little bit of a sweaty Betty. Please people for the love of common courtesy do not forget to apply prior to flying! Frequent flyers, can I get an Amen!?
  4. Chapstick. Planes always make my skin feel so dry including my lips. Honestly, I’m that girl who walks around with two or three different lips balms on her person at all times. Some might say I have been known to have a jacket chapstick, a car chapstick, a work chapstick, a living room chapstick... you get the point. Today I have very good one complimentary from my dentist and Maybelline Baby Lips.
  5. Q-tips. Since it’s the one single item that always slips my mind, I make sure it never leaves the outside pocket of my carry on! Long ago I purchased a little plastic q-tip container from Wal-Mart that holds about 30 q-tips. Since then, I just continue to fill that container up before every flight. Let’s be real there’s definitely a small handful lying in the bottom of that pocket.
  6. Leave in conditioner. Here's my advice with the leave in conditioner: Go to your local Walgreens, Wal-Mart, or whatever store you have and scout out the travel section with all the mini items and buy a few empty spray bottles. You will save so much money by filling them up with your favorite home products! Plus—you don’t have to compromise on your favorite items because the store usually only has Tresemme in mini form (BOO).  I have a few of those empty spray bottles, but I mainly use one for my leave-in conditioner and one for my perfume.
  7. Perfume. Hopefully you have a perfume where the top screws off but if you’re like me and your favorite scent does not give you this option you’ll end up spending about 10 minutes squirting your perfume into one of those lovely empty spray bottles. Yayyyyy .... she says loaded with sarcasm.
  8. Toothpaste. Crest 3D is currently in my bag because that’s what my local store was selling in mini form. Bonus, as my personal preference has always been Crest. Whenever I catch the original on sale I stock up. Over the last few years, of all places, I've found it on sale at Menards. Toothpaste with the little blue bead things in them ….yeah not good for the environment.
  9. Toothbrush. Self-explanatory. Oral B is literally the only brand of toothbrush I will use and thankfully my dentist gives me two a year at each cleaning.
  10. Body Wash. Softsoap is currently sitting in my bag. Again, because that’s what my local store was selling. Be sure to stock up on these mini items when you’re at the store so you don’t have to make a run for every single vacation.
  11. Hair ties. This may not apply to everyone but, my right wrist hasn’t been without a hair tie since 1998. So, just always have a few sitting inside a backpack compartment or travel bag bottom.
  12. Shampoo & Conditioner. Honestly depending on where I’m going I may or may not bring these items with me. Instead, I’ll sometimes buy them when I get to my destination as they will be cheaper and I will save room in my bag for other products. If not, I will again pump my favorite shampoo and condition into mini refillable bottles.
  13. Hair Brush. Since I have long hair, this is a must! My favorite is this little brush with a built in mirror! It’s compact and multi-functional! Win!
  14. Dry Shampoo. This product has brought on a roller-coaster of emotions in my life—excited, happy, sad, and jealousy. Sad—since I have dark hair my first go round made me look like I had a head full of dandruff, not cool. Jealousy—set in when I had to pass that lovely product onto one of my blonde friends. Excited & Happy—when a few months later I discovered Batiste Dry Shampoo Divine Dark and once again, my life became complete!
  15. Make up. I’m not big on this item in my day to day life let alone when it comes to traveling; I literally only carry Smashbox Mascara, Eyelash Curler, CoverGirl Eye Shadow, and a Crown Brush-Oval. Yes, that's all folks.
Even though all of these items are not
liquid, I still pack them together
in my Travel Toiletry Bag, for convenience alone.

Also, if I'm going to be traveling for more than five days, a nail kit is a must!

Remember to keep all of your liquids ready and available not only for security but also for your own personal needs. If you’re going from one extreme temperature you should make sure your change of clothes are easily accessible as well. When the pilot announces the loveliest announcements of all, descent time, take that perfect opportunity to change your clothes while you freshen up in the bathroom.
